The veterinary doctor, Dr. Ken Anthony Lao, attends and treats the injury of the rescued Pawikan as well as the parasite found on the turtle
An injured Pawikan, which is believed to be an Olive Ridley, is currently recuperating at the Cleanergy Park in Punta Dumalag, Matina Aplaya Davao City after it was found injured along the shore of Brgy. Bucana.Last March 6, 2016, Brgy. Captain Rolando Trahera of Brgy. Bucana turned over the injured Pawikan to Davao Light and Power Co.'s Community Relations Manager Fermin Edillon. This is the second time that an injured Pawikan was found in Bucana.According to Brgy. Captain Trahera, the Pawikan was said to be trapped in the fishnet of the local fisher folks and its flipper was wounded in the process of setting it free. By then, they immediately brought the Pawikan to the Cleanergy Park. The Davao Light team immediately gave first aid treatment to the turtle's wound by putting on antiseptic. Afterwards, the team in coordination with the DENR XI and its national office brought7the Pawikan to the veterinarian, Dr. Ken Lao, for thorough assessment and treatment.Based on the result of the physical examination, the Pawikan needs to be temporarily kept in the Cleanergy Park until its flipper self-heals with proper medication as prescribed by the veterinarian and food intake.Once the Pawikan fully recuperates, it will be released to the sea where it belongs.“This injured Pawikan is the fourth Pawikan that is temporarily placed in the Cleanergy park to give it proper care until it recovers enough to continue its journey to the sea” said Edillon.
