AboitizPower is the Philippines’ leading provider of renewable energy, advancing business and communities towards A Better Future.
Powering A Better Future for Over a Hundred Years Now
Achieving the status as the Philippines’ leading renewable energy provider is a milestone born out of our commitment to advancing business and communities with reliable, reasonable, and responsible power.
In December 1978, the Aboitiz Group divested its interests in Jolo and Ormoc upon the government’s plan to sell and convert its electric utilities into electric cooperatives within the region. The company eventually ventured into distribution utility networks within the Special Economic Zones of the Subic Bay Freeport Zone, Mactan Export Processing Zone, and West Cebu Industrial Park.
The period between 1990 and 2000 was a time of great change for the organization. With the deregulation of the power industry and privatization of the National Power Corporation (NPC) on the legislative agenda, the Aboitiz Group focused on consolidating all its power assets into one corporate identity.
On February 13, 1998, AboitizPower was officially incorporated as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Aboitiz Equity Venture, Inc., becoming the holding company for all power-related businesses and investments of the Aboitiz Group.
Its responsibilities include investing in, holding, owning, and acquiring a diverse portfolio of assets in power generation, distribution utilities, retail electricity services, and distributed energy nationwide. AboitizPower also provides operations, management, and technical services and advice to commercial, industrial manufacturing, and other kinds of enterprises engaged in our field of business.
Through the Electric Power Industry Reform Act of 2001 (EPIRA), the AboitizPower business model was reformed, making it a more efficient and low-cost power producer under the new regulation standards which included adapting to open access electricity provisions.
Currently, we are maximizing our efforts to balance our renewable and thermal capacities by 2030 through the expansion of our domestic and international portfolio of Cleanergy facilities. This is part of our 10-year strategy in support of the global movement for cleaner energy.
All these span over a century of dedication in empowering the generation today to reach a better tomorrow.
