Improved health center in Ermita, Cebu City to be completed in May 2022

Residents of Barangay Ermita in Cebu City may avail of local medical services much easier soon with the completion of P750,000 worth of improvements on its health center in May 2022.

Through collaboration among AboitizPower subsidiary Cebu Private Power Corp. (CPPC), Aboitiz Foundation, and Brgy. Ermita, the project seeks to provide more space to cater to additional medical assistance such as basic dental and maternity care services, among others.

“We are thankful to CPPC and Aboitiz Foundation for providing us with a comfortable covered area for our clients. This is a big help to the Brgy. Ermita Health station, especially now that more residents are availing of our health services,” nurse Flor Tibay said.

The project components include a waiting area for patients, a multipurpose shed, as well the provision of filing cabinets and medicines.

CPPC is scheduled to turn over this project to the barangay next month. With this expansion, Ermita residents no longer have to travel to the nearest general hospital to have themselves or their loved ones checked up, reducing costs for travel as well as the time spent in transit.

By promoting better public health facilities in the barangay, residents are assured of getting their needed medical services in a more accessible way.

“The improvement of health and wellness facilities is important in promoting a healthy and enabled population. A healthy population means a population that is productive and proacting in advancing their lives and of those around them,” CPPC Assistant Vice President for Operations and Maintenance Ariel Fabella said.

CPPC operates and manages an oil-fired power plant located in the heart of Cebu City, embedded within the franchise area of Visayan Electric Company, and has the unique capability to deliver power directly to the distribution utility’s circuits and its customers.

To recall, CPPC went online on December 18, 2021 to serve Visayan Electric, helping the distribution utility prioritize the re-energization of hospitals, water providers, and other vital institutions in Cebu City following the onslaught of typhoon Odette. CPPC was the first source of power in Cebu since the main transmission lines were down and power was not flowing into the city from generation facilities.

The power company is also at the forefront of community development in Ermita, having spearheaded various projects on women empowerment, livelihood, education, health and wellness, and environmental conservation, among others, through the years.
