AboitizPower, EMB plant close to 1,400 seedlings

Living up to its commitment towards environmental stewardship, AboitizPower subsidiary Therma South, Inc. (TSI) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) - Environmental Management Bureau-Region XI (EMB-XI) joined forces in a tree-planting activity last 27 June 2017 in celebration of the World Environment Month.

Volunteers from TSI, EMB, and the local government units of Davao City and Sta. Cruz, Davao Del Sur planted over a thousand seedlings inside the 300-megawatt Davao Baseload Power Plant complex in Binugao, Toril, Davao City.

“This tree planting activity is in celebration of World Environment Month. By planting trees, we can effectively cut and offset carbon dioxide emissions,” said DENR-EMB-XI Regional Director Metodio U. Turbella.

“This tree planting activity aims to make our plant greener by growing trees inside the TSI complex. It is also in line with our Carbon Sink Management Program or CSMP, which aims to plant one million trees within the span of 10 years,” said TSI Vice President and Plant Manager Valentin S. Saludes III.

TSI has been implementing the CSMP in Marilog and Paqiubato, Davao City through partnerships with the IP communities for the rehabilitation of their ancestral lands. The CSMP is also one of the means to effectively sequester the plant’s carbon emissions.
