Expanded Safety and LMC’s 3rd Anniversary

Copy of VECO_EOSH_03Contractors of the Visayan Electric Company (VECO) will be introducing their individual safety officers during its launching following the weeklong activities of the anniversary of the Labor Management Cooperation (LMC) last April 25.“We will be meeting them for the first time in a meeting that will be held on April 26,” Benje Retuertas, VECO’s Occupational Safety, Security, Health & Environment Department (OSSHED) head said. It will be the launching of the Expanded Occupational Safety and Health (E-OSH) committee.The establishment of safety officers for each contractor rendering their services to VECO is in compliance to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) requirements. Two safety officers are required for contractors that have at least 200 personnel."There will now be a check and balance on safety. It will not only be VECO who will do the monitoring. We are now many," he said.Other than this, VECO's LMC also be had a series of activities which started on April 25.VECO's LMC is composed of personnel from the labor and management sites who work hand-in-hand to accomplish certain goals using mutually acceptable means. This was established on April 23, 2013.“There will be a blessing of VECO's basketball court inside the company's compound in barangay Banilad, Cebu City as a kick-off of LMC’s 3rd anniversary,” Connie Sosas, Employee Engagement specialist of the company, added.Other highlights of the LMC anniversary include environmental and health talks on Wednesday (April 27); distribution of school supplies and feeding of about 100 children at the Bethlehem Care Center in barangay Inayawan, Cebu City on Thursday (April 28); a refresher seminar regarding benefits from SSS, Philhealth and Pag-ibig; and a Magna Carta for Women Seminar both on Friday (April 29).

Last Saturday (April 30), the VECOlympics dubbed ‘Kaibigan Kasadya sa Kainit 2016’ will kick off. An Amazing Race that will be participated in by different LMC members and a battle of strength and agility in the different sports activities are lined up for that day. Awarding and closing messages are also set to cap the day.LMC members were also invited to attend the Labor Day activities on Sunday.Sosas said the establishment of an LMC has helped create a suitable venue for discussion of certain labor issues and concerns involving employees and the management.Some officials of LMC on the labor side are also members of VECO's Employees Union. They currently have 163 members from the rank-and-file employees.
