APRI Wins Gold at Gawad Kaligtasan at Kalusugan Awards
Receiving the award for APRI are (L to R) APRI Facility Head for Tiwi Joe Lachica (5th); APRI Manager for OSH Judyann Torres (6th); APRI VP for Safety, Health and Environment Ma. Victoria Arago (7th); and APRI President and COO Jeffrey Estrella (8th). The award was handed over by DOLE Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma (9th); DOLE Region 5 Director Imelda Gatinao (13th); and OSHC Executive Director Jose Maria Batino (15th).

AP Renewables Inc. (APRI), through its Tiwi Geothermal Powerplant (TGP), was honored by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) with the Gold Award, being named National Champion for the Power Industry category at the 2024 Gawad Kaligtasan at Kalusugan (GKK).

Out of nine finalists in the electricity, gas and steam industry, APRI’s Tiwi Geothermal Facility emerged as the top performer, setting a benchmark for safety, health, and employee well-being. The GKK is the highest accolade in the Philippines for organizations that demonstrate outstanding health and safety management. Organized biennially by DOLE, it recognizes companies’ efforts in creating a safe, healthy, and sustainable work environment.

APRI’s Tiwi Geothermal Facility was recognized for its holistic and inclusive occupational health and safety management programs, proactive risk mitigation initiatives, and exemplary practices in fostering a culture of safety and care for employee well-being. The facility also gained praise for its efforts in promoting innovation, social responsibility and environmental sustainability — integrating safety practices with the company’s core values of responsible operations and community support.

“Winning this award honors the responsible work we do at APRI. More than implementing these policies in safety and health, my personal mission is to ensure that every APRI employee returns home safely to their families at the end of each day,” said APRI President Jeffrey Estrella.

“Receiving this award is an incredible privilege. But it is also a reminder that our work is ongoing and there is always more to be done,” said APRI Senior Assistant Vice President for Safety, Health, and Environment Maria Victoria Arago.

APRI continues to promote workplace safety, aligned with its overarching goals of operational excellence, employee welfare, and environmental stewardship.
