Davao Light completes its first Underground Distribution System; makes Araw ng Davao celebration more festive

Copy of AFTER_Unitop Area“Wireless na ang some part ng Davao! Tingnan nyo yung mga poste, ang linis tingnan, just like in JAPAN!”This is just one of the several posts of the netizens who have been in the Davao City Hall vicinity, the pilot area of Davao Light's Phase 1 of the Underground Distribution System (UDS) Project.Though it's not the entire Davao City that went wireless, the Phase 1 of the UDS project of Davao Light was a breakthrough as the removal of all cables was completed in time for the 79th Araw ng Davao celebration.“The UDS is one of the most challenging projects that the Engineering has handled. But given the skills and the dedication of our engineers together with the exemplary support of other Davao Light Kaibigans and the management, the UDS project was completed on its target date. The sleepless nights and the efforts we put in paid off as manifested by several positive feedbacks of the Dabawenyos posted on Facebook and Twitter.” said Reynold Felix, AVP for Engineering Support. The teams that are worth mentioning and have put in so much time in the completion of the UDS Project are the following: Power Systems Planning and Design; Occupational, Safety, Security, Health and Environment; Systems Operations, Special Projects, Legal, Customer Retail and Services; Substation and Electrical Equipment; Streetlights and Pole Utilities; Distribution Networ, Distribution Systems; Power Metering; Procurement and Logistics; and the Reputation Enhancement Departments. Also, the members of the project team who worked very hard to the realization of the UDS are Engr. Reynold Felix, Project Director; Engr. Enriczar Tia and Engr. Arnel Bersabe, Project Management Support; Engr. Jaime Derecho III, Project Manager; Engr. Allan Calag and Engr. Mark Catalan, Project Engineers; and Engr. Jesse Talavera, Project Civil Engineer. The success of the Underground Cabling Project of the Davao City LGU was also due to the participation of the telecommunication companies.“No more dangling wires”, said one netizen in his caption for his facebook photo taken during the festival's parade.Indeed, the 79th Araw ng Davao celebration has become more successful with the absence of the photo bombers, such as the dangling wires, on the scene. With the positive outcome of Phase 1, the Davao City LGU is considering to expand the UDS Project to the major thoroughfares of the city. "With the issuance of another City Ordinance, the team hopes to start Phase 2 within the year.”, added Felix.
