April 04, 2022
Students and teachers of Sto. Tomas National High School receive tablets and laptops for online learning from Davao Light and Power Co., Inc. (Davao Light) and Aboitiz Foundation Inc. on March 14, 2022.
“I am very thankful that we [have] stakeholders who are very generous to help us in our undertakings, especially in this time of the pandemic,” Felinita II R. Villacura, Brigada Eskwela Coordinator, said. The school specializes in Science, Technology, and Engineering (STE) courses, and helps students fulfill their dreams to become the future engineers and scientists of the country.
Jyhm Sidney B. Dano, a Grade 10 student and one of the recipients of the donated tablets, shares her hardships in attending online classes while using an old cellphone model. She is very thankful for the gadget as it would help her study more efficiently in subjects such as basic calculus and advanced chemistry. “I’m planning to study Biology in college and become a marine biologist,” Dano answered when asked about her plans for the future.
“Rest assured that these students will work hard and will continue to excel in Science and Math when participating in competitions, since this is a special program in science and engineering. These children will hopefully have a brighter future with the guidance of our teachers and with the support of private companies such as Davao Light, who respond to the needs of public schools,” Ricardo M. Olmedo Jr., principal of Sto. Tomas National High School said in his speech.
The school is also a recipient of the previous projects of Davao Light such as the refurbishment of their Practical Arts Room, EIM (Electrical Installation and Maintenance) laboratory, a Technical Vocational facility, as well as values formation and leadership training.
“We hope these gadgets will be fully maximized. Maybe some of you who have used the EIM laboratory will become electricians and engineers. We look forward to working with you in Davao Light,” Paul Michael Cazar, head of the Panabo office of Davao Light, warmly congratulated the students.
On the same day, Davao Light donated the same items to Pag-asa Elementary School in Kapalong Davao del Norte. The school currently has 297 students and eight teachers who are practicing modular and online learning amidst the pandemic. Previously, the same items were also donated to Tacunan Elementary School and Tugbok Central Elementary School in Davao City on March 4, 2022.
This project aims to support less fortunate students who need to regularly attend online classes, so they will not be left behind in their studies.
