AboitizPower subsidiary improves schools in Mindanao

Classes have officially started but way before students entered their classrooms weeks ago, Hedcor made sure that their school grounds and facilities were school-ready.

Through the assistance of volunteer employees, Hedcor’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) team conducted its Brigada Eskwela Plus activities and school supplies donations across various schools in Mindanao.

School facilities get an upgrade

In efforts to improve school facilities, Hedcor took over the repair of a lunch area in Tibolo Elementary school in Brgy. Tibolo, Sta. Cruz. Aside from donating construction materials to enhance the area, Hedcor volunteers also assisted in carpentry and painting works. The facility now doubles as a multipurpose area for various educational activities.

Similarly, in Mt. Apo Highschool in Brgy. Sibulan, Sta. Cruz, a 100-meter school perimeter fence was concreted through the assistance of Hedcor volunteers. This will further secure the safety of the students and teachers, as well as school facilities. Concreting of a 15-meter pathwalk was also done in the Bukidnon-based Santiago Elementary School.

On the other hand, the Brigada Eskwela efforts in Tugbok Central Elementary School were geared towards gardening and landscaping school grounds. This activity doubled as a recycling initiative for used tires which were repurposed as pots for the school’s garden. Hedcor’s Environmental team also conducted an information-education campaign Ecological Solid Waste Program to parents, students & teachers to support and emphasize the importance of recycling.

Over 2,800 students in Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon also received brand new school supplies to equip them throughout the school year.

Advancing communities through education

These education-centered projects, totalling to about 1 million pesos, aim to provide a safer, healthier, and learning-conducive school facility to the host communities of Hedcor. These activities also brought together over a hundred Hedcor employee volunteers.

Ms. Marites B. Chan, school principal of the Mt. Apo National High School, was one of the many who thank Hedcor for such initiatives. “Brigada Eskwela is a unifying activity that truly brings the various partners to come together for the good and welfare of the students. With this, we express our heartfelt gratitude to Hedcor and Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. for the huge material donation and manpower support given to our school.”

Hedcor has over 11 hydropower plants in Mindanao which generates a total of 135MW of clean and renewable energy. Hedcor is a run-of-river hydropower arm of AboitizPower.
