Hedcor accelerates community dev’t with 19M CSR projects in 2017

Living up to the Aboitiz group purpose of advancing business and communities, AboitizPower subsidiary Hedcor supported community development through its Php19-million Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects in 2017.

This figure is on top of the taxes and voluntary shares Hedcor is remitting to the host communities.

A total of 69 community projects were implemented. Php12.2-million spent for education, Php4.6-million for health and well-being, Php1.8-million for other special projects.

A special ingredient of Hedcor's success in CSR is employee volunteerism. Though the communities are the primary beneficiaries of CSR, its impact expands to the team members of Hedcor. Hedcor encourages them to be involved in various CSR activities such as medical missions and environmental conservation efforts.

Nova Baldo, Hedcor CSR specialist, said “Hedcor is a niche for professional growth and a workplace that has a social purpose. Hedcor lets us obtain our personal mission to positively contribute to the communities through joining CSR activities.”Numerous studies confirm that employees who have a sense of purpose at work are high

performers and more productive.Carlos Aboitiz, Hedcor president and COO, is pushing for employee engagement in CSR as a way to give back to the host communities. “We need to look for more meaningful ways to provide impact to the communities we operate in. It is our way of giving back for their support and letting us operate in their community.”Currently, Hedcor is operating 22 run-of-river hydropower plants in the Philippines, of which 10 are in Luzon and the rest are in Mindanao. Hedcor's newest project, La Trinidad Hydro in Benguet, is currently being constructed and targeted for completion in 2019.
