Davao Light supports DepEd’s Digital Rise Program
Davao Light officials turned over 4 laptops, 2 printers, 13 headsets with microphones, and 20 tablets for online learning classes to Rizal Elementary School.

In support of the Digital Rise Program of the Department of Education (DepEd) to address challenges in digital learning, several public schools in Panabo City received computer donations and equipment for module production from Davao Light and Power Co. Inc. (Davao Light) and its social development arm, Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. on April 20, 2022.

The first recipient of a computer package, Rizal Elementary School, has been implementing online classes from Grades 1 to 6 since last year. DepEd Panabo City’s Schools Division Superintendent, Dr. Reynante A. Solitario, announced that the division is looking forward to launching progressive face-to-face classes across all schools in Panabo City in the near future.

“We all know that it’s a dream of every school to advance their computerization program and the digitization of their resources,” Dr. Solitario said. “We all know that the COVID-19 crisis has shown the effects of the digital divide in education, especially on learners who really can’t access computers and laboratories in schools. The Digital Rise would like to address the [lack of] access to modern ICT (Information and Communications Technology),” Dr. Solitario added.

Panabo City Senior High School also received laptops and gadgets for online learning which will be utilized by the ICT department in their classes. Paul Michael Cazar, head of the Panabo Branch of Davao Light said, “I hope these devices will benefit more students and help them become more competitive in this digital age of technology,” Cazar addressed the teachers, emphasizing that Davao Light and Aboitiz Foundation chose the school as a recipient because of its good academic performance.

Lastly, Panabo City National High School, which has a total population of nearly 8,000 students, received a photocopying machine, laptops, and office supplies for module production. The school has also recently launched its face-to-face classes, so the equipment can be used to print out test papers and aid the teachers’ administrative work.

Davao Light and Aboitiz Foundation also donated a building and an electrical laboratory (eLab) to Panabo City National High School in the past. Davao Light, an AboitizPower subsidiary, fully supports DepEd’s aim to provide quality education which is also one of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals.
