Cultivating the knowledge of Gumitan Women Farmers

Copy of IMG_5519Imagining a place with no electricity might be off from reality with this millennial age but the truth is there are almost 16M Filipinos who have no access to electricity. One of them were the Matigsalug Tribe from Gumitan Marilog District. In December 7, 2014, this was solved with the help of Davao Light Power and Co.'s solar charging station. To further enhance the opportunity given to the Matigsalug Tribe, Davao Light and Power Co., in partnership with the Ateneo de Davao University's Mindanawon Initiative for Cultural Dialogue (MICD-AdDU), held a series of trainings for the capacity building of the Gumitan Women Farmers of the Matigsalug Tribe. The aim of the capacity building is to further cultivate and sustain the opportunity that has been given to them. The trainings included Basic Financial Literacy, which was conducted last February 13 and March 5, Indigenous People's Rights Seminar Workshop last April 20-21, and Organization Mission and Vision Workshop held on January 5, 2016.With the knowledge that has been instilled within them, it could be start of a better future for the tribe of the Matigsalug.
