December 10, 2018
More than 1,300 students from three public high schools in Cotabato can now enjoy a safer learning environment after getting their electrical wiring systems upgraded.
This was made possible through the classroom rewiring project of AboitizPower subsidiary Cotabato Light and Power Company (CLPC), in partnership with the Aboitiz Foundation, as part of the distribution utility’s aim to promote electrical safety in schools and to prevent fire-related incidents caused by poor electrical systems.
Separate turnover ceremonies were held for this year’s recipients, which included Pagalamatan Elementary School, Cotabato City Central Pilot Elementary School, and Cotabato City National High School on November 21, 27, and 28, respectively.
“We are very lucky to be the recipient of this rewiring project meant to protect the lives and properties of not only the present, but also future students of these schools,” Cotabato City Schools Division XI Supervisor Sarapia G. Talapas Al Hadja said.
CLPC has recorded at least eight fire incidents caused by faulty electrical wiring systems for this year alone.
For his part, CLPC Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Ben C. Arkoncel emphasized the ongoing commitment of the power utility to ensuring the safety of its customers and the communities within its franchise areas.
“Corporate social responsibility has always been a vital component of our business model. We will continue to do our best to help make our communities safe, empowered, and sustainable. The students can now feel safe and will no longer have to worry poor power supply during their classes,” he said.
Cotabato Light and Power Company is a wholly-owned electric distribution utility of Aboitiz Power Corporation, with service area covering Cotabato City and parts of the municipalities of Datu Odin Sinsuat and Sultan Kudarat under Maguindanao Province.
