AP, SURSECO I hold Electricity 101 symposium

Surigao Del Sur I Electric Cooperative, Inc. (SURSECO I) has gained new information agents in 110 senior high school students from Bislig City after the learners went through an electricity symposium last month.

In partnership with AboitizPower and the Aboitiz Foundation, the symposium last August 29 was organized in line with the celebration of the 10th National Electrification Awareness Month and the 50th anniversary of the National Electrification Administration.

The full-day learning session, held at the NIC Building in Mangagoy, Bislig City, was meant to build up students to help SURSECO I with its information education campaigns in the future, especially since they are now more aware of factors affecting energy efficiency, among others.

Now in its fourth run, the symposium seeks to gather industry experts to share about the electrification process and regulations in the power industry.

Engineer Glory Rebeza of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines spoke about the role of power transmission and transmission line safety while AboitizPower highlighted the role of various types of power plants strategically located across the country.

Engineer Jude Balatero, Hedcor operations supervisor, talked about the run-of-river technology, which aligns with the national government’s thrust towards renewable energy initiatives focused on energy security and improved access to clean energy.

A quiz bowl capped off the symposium, with Tabon Maximino Estrella National High School besting other participating schools. Andres Soriano Colleges of Bislig and De La Salle John Bosco College placed second and third, respectively.
