AboitizPower subsidiary donates playground to Davao City

Wooden poles are pretty much a ubiquitous sight, especially in urban areas where these hold up electric wires that bring power to homes and businesses. As common as these logs are, wooden poles are also as multifunctional.

Such as the case of Davao City, to which Davao Light and Power Co. (DLPC) and the Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (Aboitiz Foundation) donated a playground facility made of repurposed wooden poles.

With no less than Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio accepting the donation, DLPC and Aboitiz Foundation turned over the facility to the city government on August 29, 2018. The playground is expected to complement the city’s Child Minding Center, which is housed within the Davao City Recreation Center, a place where parents can entrust their children while they are at work.

The playground aims to provide a venue where children can have fun while developing their social and motor skills, thereby supporting their growth, development, and learning.

As part of its sustainability efforts, DLPC used repurposed wooden poles painted in bright hues of blue, red, yellow, and green to build the facility.

“Play is an integral part of childhood and Davao Light is privileged to be part of the children’s development through this playground facility,” Davao Light Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Rodger S. Velasco said.

The same facility is being constructed for abused children in Balay Dangupan in Barangay Buhangin and is expected to be completed in September.
