AboitizPower subsidiary among top taxpayers in San Carlos City for 2017

AboitizPower subsidiary San Carlos Sun Power Inc. (SacaSun) was recently recognized by the San Carlos City government as among its top taxpayers in 2017.

SacaSun was cited as the top real property taxpayer out of the 10 local business establishments under the category, while the top 10 business taxpayers were also acknowledged.

City Councilor Mark Cui, chair of the committee on finance, budget, and appropriation, cited the awardees’ “exemplary attitude of their consistent performance of their civil duties.”

“Tonight, we award law-abiding citizens who are exemplary models of stewardship. May everyone follow their example of civil obedience and business ethics. If we, as a nation, have this moral commitment, we will have prosperity and sharing of resources with the marginalized sectors of our society,” he said during a fellowship hosted by the San Carlos City Investment and Promotion Center for the locality’s top taxpayers last July 5.

Through its direct initiative, SacaSun also supported the awarding ceremony, which served as the culmination of the weeklong Negosyo Week celebration in line with San Carlos City’s 58th Charter Day.

Among the activities during the week were a trade fair for local products, seminars on Barangay Micro Business Enterprises (BMBE), Zumba, Fun Walk, body painting, and a habitsuwelas (small kidney bean) cooking contest.

Meanwhile, City Councilor Mari-Car Quisumbing, chairperson of the committee on livelihood and cooperatives, thanked the awardees for fulfilling their responsibilities as taxpayers.

“Please continue to do your part in assisting the city while we will do our part in ensuring that your taxes will not be misused,” she added.

SacaSun operates AboitizPower’s 59-megawatt solar power project, which sits on a 75-hectare property within the San Carlos Ecozone in Barangay Punao, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental.

The P3.7-billion SacaSun solar power project is AboitizPower’s first foray into solar energy generation and its 29th renewable energy facility. It is also the company’s first venture on Negros Island.

“We want to be your neighbor of choice. We want to be good corporate citizens. But more than being all that, we want to push forward initiatives that will advance business and communities,” SacaSun President and Chief Operating Officer Alex Coo said.

Two years after its facility was inaugurated in April 2016, SacaSun continues to contribute to its host community in ways beyond paying taxes, with several corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs in place addressing different areas to improve the lives of people in the area, particularly education and environmental protection.
