AP Renewables, Inc. (APRI), an AboitizPower subsidiary, was awarded the 2015 Saringaya Award – Covered Industry Category by the Department of Environmental and Natural Resources (DENR) Region 5 for its implementation of various sustainability projects geared towards promoting community livelihood and environmental preservation.

The three entries of APRI for the Saringaya Award were the Adopt-A-River project, nursery establishment and seedling production and the A-PARK “Aboitiz Passion for Agro-forestry and Reforestation to Keep” (A-PARK) program, a group-wide biodiversity enhancement project aimed at planting six million trees nationwide by 2020.

Other environmental programs of APRI are compliance to permit requirements, Information and Education Campaign (IEC) on air and water quality monitoring, hazardous and non-hazardous waste management, and operation of Tiwi multipartite monitoring team.

“We rely mainly on natural resources and we get steam from the ground. In return, we make sure we always take care of the environment through our environmental programs, and treat our communities as our important stakeholders benefiting them from our CSR programs,” shared APRI AVP for Facility Wilfredo Sarmago.

The Saringaya Award is a regional competition intiated by the DENR Regional Office V that gives recognition for remarkable contributions to environmental protection, conservation and management.

Coined from the Bicol dialect, masaringaya, which means a green, abundant, healthy and balanced ecosystem, it has been considered as a premier award institution the whole Bicol Region since 2001.

Currently exploring the potential of Mindanao for geothermal power, AboitizPower remains true to its commitment of social responsibility and building good corporate citizenship by minimizing environmental impact, improving community livelihood, and promoting sustainability to its employees and stakeholders, all for a better future.
