APRI, SacaSun plant 4,800 trees in their communities

UNITED for the Aboitiz Groupwide Simultaneous Tree Planting, AboitizPower subsidiaries AP Renewables, Inc. (APRI) and San Carlos Sun Power, Inc. (SacaSun) dedicated their Saturday morning to participate in the worthwhile drive for the environmental stewardship.

Last July 13, APRI and SacaSun assembled over 230 volunteers from its employees and partner stakeholders in the three planting sites within their host communities in the provinces of Laguna, Albay, and Negros Occidental. After the half-day event, the team has successfully planted 4,800 fruit-bearing and forestry seedlings.

The fruit-bearing seedlings, which include Rambutan and Guyabano, planted in Laguna will provide an additional source of income for the farmer communities after around five years. While the hardwood and forestry seedlings in Albay and Negros Occidental aim to support in the greening program of their respective local government units.

Toward a greener world, the total planted trees can contribute to estimated sequestration of 286,320g CO2e, which is equivalent to 36,480 smartphones charged.

“At the heart of being an Aboitiz team member, lies our commitment to sustainability” echoed Alex Coo, President & COO of APRI and SacaSun, as he read the group-wide message to the volunteers.

This effort is in line with the commitment of the Aboitiz Group to plant nine million trees by 2020. As of 2018, the A-Park program of the Aboitiz Group managed to plant 6.6 million seedlings nationwide.  And with every Aboitiz team member’s enthusiasm in contributing to this year’s environmental sustainability program, nine million trees is now within reach.
