Home About Us Our Businesses Power Generation ThermalTherma South, Inc.
Therma South, Inc. (TSI) is the first coal-fired power plant in the country to build a Coal Dome. This structure safely stores coal deposits and prevents dust pollution caused by its combustion.
The 300 MW plant, located between Davao City and Sta. Cruz in Davao del Sur uses the latest Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB) technology to recirculate combustion for even greater power generation efficiency.
TSI powers more than 20 electric cooperatives and distribution utilities across Mindanao. It services major cities in the provinces of Davao, Cagayan de Oro, General Santos, Butuan, Zamboanga, Kidapawan, Cotabato, Tagum, Agusan, Surigao, Sarangani, Sultan Kudarat, Bukidnon and Misamis Oriental.
Through TSI, AboitizPower is helping Mindanao achieve a power-stable and better tomorrow.

TSI’s iconic coal dome is the first of its kind in the Philippines. This modern coal storage facility ensures fuel source security while guaranteeing the safety and welfare of the community and environment.
Sitting on the coal jetty, a screw-type unloader safely works like a giant vacuum cleaner that prevents spillage and spread of coal dust. This is done while properly unloading the delivered fuel to the conveyor system
The CEMS is an around-the-clock, real-time monitoring system that oversees the emission levels of the power plant. It can easily be accessed anytime online by government regulatory bodies to ensure the plant meets the standards of the Philippine Clean Air Act (R.A. 8749) at all times.
In line with its commitment to promoting a culture of safety across the organization and among its partners, the AboitizPower Coal Business Unit (BU) clocked in close to 9.6 million safe man-hours without lost time injury (LTI) as of the end of June this year.
“Tatoy. One would think that the nickname would belong to a man, but it’s mine,” jested Eleanor Batiquin, “I guess the not-so-effeminate nickname would come to signify me, a woman, carving out a space in a stereotypically male-dominated field.”
Almost a year into the COVID-19 pandemic and enterprises have slowly found their footing in the new normal. While larger organizations are already positioned towards recovery, micro, small, and medium enterprises are still the hardest hit with subsequent quarantines, stringent public health protocols, and generally lower demand.
