SacaSun reinforces teachers’ approach to students in crisis

In a bid to help turn schools in San Carlos City into safe havens for students, especially those who might be troubled, AboitizPower subsidiary San Carlos Sun Power Inc. (SacaSun) organized a training for teachers entitled “Practical Approaches to Students in Crisis.

Last August 11, SacaSun, together with Aboitiz Foundation, taught 26 educators from three elementary schools in Barangay Punao, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental practical skills in identifying red flags and risk factors shown by students in crisis.

Participants from Talave Elementary School engage in an interactive exercise during the Teachers workshop entitled "Practical Approaches to Students in Crisis."

“Youth in crisis, ranging from depression to suicide, have always been present. What is alarming is that the victims are getting younger. Early identification could be a great way to provide assistance to these students in need. Let us do it one troubled pupil at a time,” SacaSun Reputation Officer Raymond Rigor said.

Workshop facilitator Dr. Johnny Decatoria, a licensed psychologist and trauma specialist at the Psyche Health Assessment and Counseling Center, highlighted the need for teachers to have minor knowledge on the background of their pupils, as this could be key in understanding the students' behavior.

In addition to the training, SacaSun also provided learner’s and teacher’s kits. Schools were also given IT equipment as this need was recognized during last year’s Stress Management seminar identifying reporting deadlines as one of the main stressors of teachers and the lack of IT tools a reason for that.

SacaSun owns and operates the 59-megawatt peak solar power facility located within the San Carlos Economic Zone in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental. The power plant is AboitizPower’s first foray into solar power generation and the company’s first venture in the Negros Island region.  It is committed to co-creating safe, empowered, and sustainable communities through its various corporate social responsibility programs, community sponsorships, and ER 1-94 projects.
