The Archdiocese of Cebu can rest easy, knowing that the Visayan Electric Company (VECO) will be there to help keep its buildings and structures safe.
Last month, VECO turned over the to the Archdiocesan Museum of Cebu its newly rewired Centennial Garden following a request from Rev. Fr. Brian Brigoli, the museum director
Fr. Brigoli, who also chairs the Cebu Archdiocesan Commission for the Cultural Heritage of the Church, expressed his gratitude to the distribution company during the turnover ceremony.
He recalled that on May 25 this year, during the annual Gabii sa Kabilin, a celebration of Cebu’s heritage and culture, a stage performance by students and community actors at the museum garden was interrupted by sudden power failure and then followed by an explosion in the circuit breaker
No one was harmed and none of the garden’s structures were damaged. Nonetheless, this prompted the church leader to request VECO for a rewiring project
“I would like to thank VECO for its commitment to helping maintain a well-preserved heritage building, free from electrical hazards,” he said.
He added that this project will help them with their preparation for the 500th anniversary celebration of the arrival of Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan and the introduction of Christianity in the Philippines, wherein the Archdiocesan Museum of Cebu will be among the highlights.
For his part, VECO Chief Operating Officer Anton Mari Perdices assured the Archdiocese of its commitment to assisting the Church in keeping its buildings and structures safe.
Aside from the electrical wiring system upgrade of the museum’s garden, VECO also installed cost-efficient lighting fixtures such as flood lights and garden lights.
VECO also rewired in 2012 the museum’s “Bahay na Bato” building, which houses several galleries containing religious artifacts, images, and sculptures, among others.
