The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority in Davao Region (TESDA XI) has once again recognized Davao Light and Power Co., Inc. (DLPC) and the Aboitiz Foundation for being its active partners in developing local communities.
The recognition was given during TESDA XI’s recently held 2018 Provincial Kabalikat Awards last September 7 in Davao City. The program aims to recognize institutions that have partnered with TESDA in implementing programs on skills development, livelihood, and employment for the community.
In 2017, TESDA XI also recognized DLPC for its support to the government agency’s programs through curriculum development, industry immersion, and employment opportunities for its graduates.
DLPC, together with Aboitiz Foundation, has been an active partner of TESDA through its various skills development projects over the years. Among these partnerships are the Basic Lineman’s Training Center of Mindanao (Project BELT.CoM), Basic Electrician Skills Training (Project BEST), and the electrical laboratory project (Project E.Lab).
Project BELT.COM aims to increase the pool of qualified workers that will help address the shortage of qualified and certified linemen in the power industry. In Davao City alone, the demand for skilled linemen is very high, especially with the increasing demand for power which would entail the construction of new transmission and distribution lines.
The program provides TESDA with the right resources and skills required as well as enhances their capability in conducting their own lineman training programs.
Meanwhile, Project B.E.S.T. is a community-based skills training initiative that aims to produce National Certified (NC II) electricians among those taking up electrical installation and maintenance courses. Davao Light’s Project e.Lab (electrical laboratory), on the other hand, seeks to provide public high schools with training facilities that will help produce NC III electricians.
