Davao Light releases another batch of sea turtle hatchlings at the Cleanergy Park
Pawikan hatchlings and the future generation. The kids are all excited to release the 107 newly-hatched baby sea turtles. The event was not just educational but also a memorable experience for the children.

Davao Light and Power Co., Inc. released a total of 107 baby pawikans out into the shores of the Cleanergy Park in Sitio Punta Dumalag, Matina Aplaya, Davao City last November 22, 2017.

Cleanergy Park is a project of Davao Light and Power Co., an AboitizPower subsidiary, in partnership with the Aboitiz Foundation. It is a biodiversity park that is aimed to help preserve the pawikan nesting grounds, be a home of many thriving bird species and help maintain ecological balance for other sea and land animals.

Davao Light Community Relations team headed by Fermin Edillon led the releasing of the pawikans. These newly-hatched sea turtles came from the pawikan nest number eight (8), which was discovered last September 23, 2017. The eggs hatched exactly 63 days after the nest was found in the park.

Present during the release were the Davao Light employees, representatives from the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA), and other guests from the community.

So long, little one. This baby pawikan with missing hind flippers is as excited as the other pawikan hatchlings as it moves towards the sea.

For the year, Davao Light has already released a total of 2,997 pawikan hatchlings including the latest batch.

Davao Light expects more pawikan nests to hatch by the end of the year or at the beginning of 2018.
