Davao Light extends service to Davao City's last three barangays in the south

November 17, 2015

Davao Light and Power Co. is now finally serving the last three barangays in the southern area of its franchise namely Brgy. Baganihan, Brgy. Datu Salumay and Brgy. Buda, which are still part of Davao City.

Last August 27

, Davao Light, through a Memorandum of Agreement, has finally taken-over these barangays which were previously served by the First Bukidnon Electric Cooperative (FIBECO).

While Davao City has been long time part of Davao Light's franchise, it is just now that the electric utility was able to fully cover the farthest limit of the city's area of responsibility in the south.

Aside from the hardwork of the men and women of Davao Light, this milestone was also achieved with the help of Davao City's 3rd District Congressman Isidro T. Ungab. Electric distribution lines and poles were extended up to these areas which are approximately 60 kms. away from Calinan proper or 90 kms. from the city's downtown area.

Prior to the actual take-over, Davao Light team went to these barangays to conduct an orientation and contract signing to the new customers. The orientation was held simultaneously in Brgy. Datu Salumay and Brgy. Buda covered courts. This was participated in by the representatives of the Bureau of Fire and Protection, Office of the City Building Official, and the staff and officials of FIBECO.

The local government also graced the event as represented by Councilor Petit Prinsipe and Engr. Alberto Ungab, Chief of Staff of Congressman Ungab. And together with Davao Light's EVP and COO Arturo M. Milan, VP for Engineering Rodger S. Velasco and AVP for Retail Services Group Arnold L. Arsolon, a ceremonial switch-on was conducted. This was witnessed by the residents of the three barangays and some Davao Light employees.

We're glad that we've finally covered the entire city of Davao. And we're happier to tell them that Davao Light will not only provide electricity service to their community but we will also extend our corporate social responsibility projects to them which is what we have been doing to various communities within our franchise.

” said Milan in his speech during the customer-orientation.

This takeover adds up 399 new customers to the 345,621 customers of Davao Light as of August 2015.
