Davao Light and Aboitiz Foundation continue to support indigenous scholars

AboitizPower distribution utility Davao Light and the Aboitiz Foundation recognize the need to champion home-grown scholars from local communities. The two organizations advocate for the local youth by providing opportunities for higher-level education through their Indigineous People Scholarship Program, a program that has been a tradition since its inception in 2002.

Financial support from Davao Light and the Aboitiz Foundation was given to Mindanawon Initiatives for Cultural Dialogue (MICD) of the Ateneo de Davao University, with an amount of P270,000 for educational and tuition assistance.

The ceremonial check was turned over by Davao Light President and COO Engr. Rodger S. Velasco to MICD Director Perpevina Tio. Also present during the turnover were Davao Light Community Relations Manager Fermin Edillon and Mindanawon scholars Caren Luis of the Bagobo-Clata Tribe and Ruby Therese Bangunan of the Mandaya Tribe.

Davao Light and the Aboitiz Foundation stand firm in their belief that education is the key to empower the Lumad youth and it is one of the group’s key focuses in advancing business and communities.
