AboitizPower’s TSI dispatches aid to community affected by Binugao fire

AboitizPower subsidiary Therma South, Inc. (TSI) responded to a fire incident that broke out in its host community of barangay Binugao, Toril, Davao City last April 20, 2021. TSI emergency response team personnel supported the Bureau of Fire Protection and volunteer firefighters by augmenting their water supply.

TSI launched disaster relief operations the following day and provided hygiene kits, blankets and mats, and medical personal protective equipment (PPE) to the affected families.

At the same time, an employee-initiated clothing drive was also conducted for the benefit of affected personnel from TSI’s service providers. Team members joined hands and raised funds to donate clothing to 14 contractors that had lost most of their belongings to the fire.

“We’re really thankful because we can always rely on TSI. From the response during the actual fire to the disaster relief operations after, TSI never forgot about the community,” said Marivic Guevara, one of those affected by the fire.

The fire started from a gas stove in a residential area that quickly spread to surrounding boarding houses. The incident displaced around 40 households, including some service provider personnels working in TSI.

Wholly-owned AboitizPower subsidiary Therma South, Inc. (TSI) is the owner and operator of the 300-Megawatt Davao Baseload Power Plant located in Binugao, Toril, Davao City.
