July 28, 2017

In line with its commitment to keeping everybody harm-free, AboitizPower subsidiary Therma South, Inc. (TSI) recently celebrated the achievement of 1-million safe manhours without lost time injury (LTI) last 18 July 2017.

The achievement is a significant milestone in upholding workplace safety as TSI currently has more than 400 people working inside the power plant.

The celebration was highlighted with a Thanksgiving Mass and a program attended by representatives from the Department of Labor and Employment-XI (DOLE-XI), the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), TSI team members, and several TSI contractors.

“In behalf of DOLE-XI, I would like to congratulate you for this remarkable achievement. Managing safety is never an easy task, much more so when you have so many workers inside a plant like TSI. But you accomplished this great feat. TSI is commendable for inculcating a culture of safety within the company and among its contractors,” said Engr. Yolibelle S. Alviñante, Senior Labor and Employment Officer and the Technical Adviser of DOLE XI safety and health programs.

Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality Manager Kishler Pascual also presented the latest safety statistics of the company. As of June 2017, the company has zero total recordable incident rate (TRIR) and zero total recordable incident severity rate (TRISR). TSI also achieved a plant occupational safety and health (OSH) inspection rating of 96. 7%.

“We treat each one as part of our family. Being so, we don’t want any harm to come to our family. The Aboitiz Group will never compromise safety for our broader targets, KPIs, and deliverables,” said Clive Anthony Smith, Senior Vice President for Operations and Maintenance of the Aboitiz Coal Business Unit.

"I am thankful that we achieved the 1 million safe man hours milestone in TSI. Big thanks to the management for always caring about the employees and contractors, and for continuously looking for ways to make the plant safer,”  said TSI Mechanical Technician Michael Baura.

TSI contractors including Ryan Acts, Work Experts, Fireball Security, Kookels, NTEC, JARC, and DJAS were also recognized for their efforts to uphold workplace safety in their duties and for their cooperation in the company’s safety programs and protocols.

“Sometimes you may think that we are very strict. This is because we care for you as if you are family and we do not want any accidents to happen to you inside the plant. Congratulations to each and every one of us. Let’s aim for another one million!” said TSI Vice President and Plant Manager Valentin S. Saludes III.
